Looking ahead...

Posted by CreateInYourJammies

The new and improved Kinder Printables website is hot off the presses. It's been a huge undertaking, but I hope that the many frequent visitors, and the new visitors alike will find something to download here.

I have a few touch ups to do on a few of the spider websites (websites that branch off of the KP site), but I think overall the big project is almost reaching a conclusion. Does that mean by to do list will shorten? Hardly! :)

KP was redesigned to provide for a better navigational system. This way when somebody is searching for a particular type of printable, the menu at the left of the website will assist.

When the Daily Kinder Printable is announced each day, there will be designation links taking you to the pages where the items are posted. This will enable me to keep the pages orderly, and give everyone an opportunity to see what else is available on the website.

The future looks bright for Kinder Printables. KP materials are now featured in several countries, (Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Dubai, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, South Africa, Turkey) as well as all over the United States. It's quite rewarding to see my artwork being used in classrooms all over the world.

Stay tuned for new developments!

Website overhaul....

What a HUGE project!

When I created my first Kinder Printables website in 2000, it was very basic. At the time that I created it, I also owned a few child care resource websites that occupied most of my time. The first KP site was decorated with cows. I wanted something cheerful and friendly.

When I decided to take a hiatus this year, it wasn't exactly planned to be this long. I had a lot of family things to assist with, and I also wanted to make some big changes to the Kinder Printables direction.

100+ pages later, Kinder Printables new format and design is about to be unveiled. I have worked a lot of hours on this website. I took an extra long time because I wanted to make sure that it was done right.

The new LOOK has a common theme, and my reason for this theme is written on the front page of the KP site. I started this blog to give me another method to connect with my Kinder Friends. :)

Your comments are always welcome. I'd love to hear from you to know what you think of the new site.

Transitions

Transitions.

Ah yes. Transitions are something that need to be present in pretty much all learning environments.

Have you ever had a conversation with somebody, and the person gets up mid-sentence and walks out of the room or changes the subject? Or have you ever been in a classroom where the teacher changes from one subject to another without any lead in?
In both of those scenarios, transitions are the problem.

What prompted me to write this tonight is because I had a conversation today with a friend of mine. He is a really great person to talk with, but he has this really bad habit of ending the conversation abruptly. He isn't rude, he just ends the conversation when he's done. The first few times that this happened, I smiled to myself, and thought wow... his Mom maybe never taught him about transitions.

I try to always take situtions in my personal life and turn them into an educational moment. About 2 weeks ago, I asked my friend if he knew what transitions were. I explained to him that for some people, their brain is following along with the conversation, and even if the conversation is or should be drawing to a close, sometimes people need a cue or signal to indicate that the conversation is drawing to a close. I explained to him that for people like me that has a fast moving brain, I am already far ahead onto the next subject so that when he decides the conversation is over, I am a few minutes ahead talking about something else.

For children, transitions are paritcularly important because their attention spans are much shorter. Children that have learning challenges such as ADD or even Bipolar, any amount of change can throw off their behavior.

I receive a lot of letters from teachers all over the world that have trouble with children moving from one learning center to another. My answer is usually very simple, transitions!

One method that I have used in the past was to use colorful/fun timers. You can pick them up pretty reasonably at a kitchen store. My favorite was a pink, it oinked when the time was up. I would set the timer 5 minutes before the rotation to the next center. The kids would hear the timer, and I would guide them with simple language to start cleaning up. The timer would be set for 5 more minutes, and then when the timer went off, the children would move to the next center.

I used this method with different age groups. You can use transitions by huming a tune, singing a song, and sometimes even dimming the lights as a signal.

Even today, I like to use transitions to let readers know what is coming up next. This gives everyone a chance to prepare for what is ahead.

A new day....

Today, my website is being re-introduced to the public. I'm excited, but at the same time I feel a little detached. I have taken a lot longer to put this together than I first anticipated. It was a HUGE job. Who ever would have thought that I would have so many pages, so many sites, and a lot of content to add. When I was going through all of my files, I was amazed at how many things I had made. I have seen the steady progression of my artwork, and designs. The old saying that things do get better with time, is true.

I am looking forward to delving into the great creative unknown and develope materials that are not only fun to use, but will be adaptable to various skills and age groups.

Well here it goes.... the Kinder Printables site is moving forward into the next phase of stardome. :) If I crash and burn, I could always get a job as a donut and cocoa tester at the North Pole. :) (Dreaming!)
